The album form of Paph venustum puts out a lovely flower, with green and white stripes and a mottled, green and yellow pouch that sometimes reminds us of a sea turtle. This one is native to the southern slopes of the Himalayas in Eastern Nepal, Darjiling (Darjeeling), Sikkim and Bhutan. They are also found in northeastern India. Plants normally grow in humus in dense jungle undergrowth at the base of cliffs, or in dense bamboo thickets. They are somewhat hard to find in cultivation. Here is how the judges described one award winner: "One well-proportioned, albinistic flower on one 19-cm inflorescence; dorsal sepal slightly cupped, translucent white veined dark green; synsepal translucent white veined dark green; petals undulating, hirsute, butter yellow on distal third, veined yellow-green; pouch yellow, veined apple green; substance average; texture crystalline." This plant is blooming size, which we define as likely to flower within a year or so. These have a leaf span of 7 to 8 inches, and we will ship you one freshly repotted in a 3.5 inch pot.
